What anchors it there to that receptor? Salt bridges? Hydrogen bonds? What kind of chemistry bonds? A source would be awesome as well.

What is the best way to invest in bonds in a taxable account?

Friday, February 26th, 2010
John asked:

My goal is long-term growth because I have a stable and highly paid job. I want to use bonds to diversify my stock portfolio. Quality (low default rate), low cost, and tax efficiency are the most important to me.

I’m considering Vanguard or Fidelity bond index funds for their low cost and diversification.

I’m also considering IBond (US Saving Bond Series I at TreasuryDirect.gov) for its tax deferral, tax-exemption when redeemed for my education, and guaranteed principal plus interests at maturity.

How do you invest in bonds in your taxable accounts? Why?

What is the maximum number of covalent bonds an element with atomic number 8 can make with hydrogen?

Sunday, February 21st, 2010
Tina T asked:

The element with atomic number 8 would need 2 electrons to fill its valence shell, where as hydrogen only needs 1 to fill its valence shell right?

The answer to this is 2 maximum covalent bonds, but I cannot figure out why. Science savvy people heeeelp I have a bio 2 exam coming up and my professor and TA are slow at responding to email! Thanks!

How do treasury bonds work and are they a good investment?

Sunday, February 21st, 2010
Eric asked:

If I bought a 30yr $50 treasury bond today, what does that mean? What would be the return on my investment? My tax program is offering an option to purchase bonds out of tax refunds and I don’t know anything about them. I’m wondering if it is worth putting a couple hundred dollars into some treasury bonds.
